When I fell pregnant almost 5 years ago now, I knew my life would change. And I was ready, as ready as you can be I guess. But then, deep down, I was also scared of what my ‘new life’ would look like.

Did you want to hang on to ‘normal life’ when you fell pregnant or did you celebrate your pregnancy?

By cycling to work until 7 months pregnant and going to a music festival for New Years five hours away from home, I was trying to prove to myself and everyone around me that I could be responsibly pregnant AND enjoy the things I loved.

Like enjoying a good cup of coffee because I knew just how many health benefits coffee has. I refused to think of it as a ‘guilty pleasure’ but it certainly wasn’t mentioned in any pregnancy nutrition guide.
Of course I was worried that I was being selfish holding on to coffee. Did the caffeine, acidity or additives in the coffee I would order at cafes contribute to heart burn in my late pregnancy, or to the colic my little bean suffered?
Why was there no coffee considering the needs of us pregnant, breastfeeding and caffeine conscious mummas?
